Welcome to our 3 Digit Addition Regrouping Worksheets.

Addition is a process which children learn quite naturally as soon as they learn to start counting. During kindergarten and first grade, adding piles of objects together is really important and reinforces childrens understanding of place value and 1:1 correspondence.

Later on, when children are confident adding piles of objects together, they can progress on to number lines or counting on in their heads. When children have understood this, they can begin to learn their addition facts and progress on to column addition.

During 2nd grade, children should be learning the following mental addition skills:

• know their addition facts up to 20;
• mentally adding on 1, 10 or 100 to any 2 or 3-digit number.

For pencil and paper methods, children should be able to:

• add two 3-digit numbers together;
• add together three or four 2-digit numbers.

The sheets in this section have addition sums that require carrying as follows:

• in sheet 1, only the ones need regrouping
• in sheet 2 and 3, the ones and/or the tens need regrouping
• in sheets 4, the ones, tens and hundreds need regrouping
• sheets 5 and 6 involve writing out the addition problem and solving it.
