Here you will find our selection of free games to help your child learn their addition facts to 20, and to count on by ten.

As well as printable games to support subtraction fact learning, we have also included some links to some great online games to develop addition skills at the bottom of the page.

Addition Math Games

Using games is a great way to develop math skills whilst having fun at the same time.

Learning facts which can, let's face it, be quite boring at times changes into an exciting game where kids are motivated and want to get better at.

Many of the games on this page will also help to develop reasoning and strategic thinking skills as well as knowledge of addition facts.

All the games come with detailed instructions how to play the game, and also a few variations and ideas of how to change the rules to make the game more interesting.

All of the printable games on this page are free to use and enjoy, and we have also included a few great online addition games that run on external websites to use at the bottom of the page.

Using these games will help your child to:

  • learn addition facts to 20+20;
  • develop strategic thinking skills.

Addition Math Games for 2nd Grade

Classify It! Game #3

This addition game also involves classifying numbers correctly as odd or even, or greater than/ less than a given amount.

As well as developing addition skills, it is great for developing an understanding of mathematical vocabulary used.

Three dice are needed to play this game.

The addition facts in this game have a maximum total of 6+6+6=18.

Number of players: 2-3

Addition Cover Up to 12

This addition math game is a simple game which uses strategy and addition together to work out facts up to 12+12.

It is a great game for children who are not yet ready to handle addition facts up to 20, but can are confident with facts up to 10.

Number of players: 2

Race to the Moon - Adding to 20

The aim of this game is to create a path of unbroken counters from the Earth to the Moon using subtraction fact knowledge.

A great game for developing quick recall of addition facts and also for strategic thinking of how to block your opponent.

The addition facts in this game have a maximum total of 20.

Number of players: 2

Race to 10 Dice Game

This simple dice game involves rolling 4 dice and adding the numbers up correctly.

The player with the largest total scores a point.

There is no strategy involved in playing the game, it is very quick and easy to set up.

The addition facts in this game have a maximum total of 6+6+6+6 = 24.

Number of players: any

Race to the Moon Adding 10

The aim of this game is to create a path of unbroken counters from the Earth to the Moon using subtraction fact knowledge.

The facts involve adding ten to a range of 2 digit numbers.

This is quite a specific game for developing this important skill.
